Celebration of Learning Day 2012

Paul and I went with Hannah to her school for Celebration of Learning Day.  This is an annual event where we go and spend time with our child(ren) for a session up at school.  We get to do some activities with them and get to have a chat with them and their teacher.  Plus get to look through their portfolio.  This is a selection of work that Hannah's teacher and Hannah herself has chosen.

In the taxi on our way....

Working on an Acrostic Poem together using the word "Birthday Party"

Working on Venn diagrams.

Showing us her maths on the computer

Playing a maths game with the objective of distinguishing between units, tens and hundreds.

Hannah won.  She got to 100 first!

Being reflective on the Unit of Inquiry that they've just completed - Celebrations

Artwork - Hannah drawing a picture of me...

Hannah water colouring my portrait of her...

We had a marvellous time together and are just so proud of what Hannah can do and has done.  Next year's will be interesting as will have both of the girls there !!!

Park Outing....

Paul took the girls to Victoria Park last Sunday for a couple of hours.  It wasn't the warmest nor the most pleasant of days but thought a little run around would be a good idea.  Victoria was excited as she has now the red coat (doesn't fit Hannah) and borrowed Hannah's hat.  She really is a cheeky wee thing.....Hannah wasn't playing ball with getting her photo taken for this outing...

A good moustache...

Victoria had her trusty 'fluff' and was sitting on the couch with it the other morning.  She looks at me and says "Mum this will make a good moustache...".  Hannah got my phone and took the following picture....

Dinner

With the sun shining in this evening it was great to take some candid shots of the girls.  We were having dinner together - Hannah's request of lasagne - & I thought that they looked cute (& like butter wouldn't melt in their mouth but if you had heard them 5 mins earlier....) sitting together.....

It was good to see the buildings in Central once again - haven't had this view for a while

Woodlands Mother Day Celebration 2012

I know it's not Mother's Day in NZ but it is in England tomorrow.  And as Victoria's school follows the British Curriculum that's when they celebrate !!

We were invited to school on Thursday to spend the morning with the class.  We were only there for an hour but it was a really lovely way to spend some time with our children.  We were greeted with a poem when we arrived.

Then we got to help them with a craft.  As Easter is nearly here they're in the process of making Easter bonnets so we made 3 flowers to be attached.

Then afterwards we headed outside for the kids to have a play and for the adults to have a coffee and enjoy the apple muffins that were made for us.

It was a lovely morning and I came away with a beautiful card and some sugar scrub that smells just like pina colada !!!  Yum!!

How one waits for a taxi.....

It really has been a grey, dismal week and a bit.  We haven't seen the sun for nearly 10 days and I'm so over the grey !!!  There was a glimmer of sunlight the other day - nothing to get excited about as it didn't last long - but at least I know summer's coming.....eventually !!!  The girls are asking why is summer so slow to get here as they just don't like being cold !!  I can't say I blame them !!

After school on Monday Victoria and I went to get a taxi to go home.  She didn't want to wait with me and hail a cab but decided to sit down.....

Celebration Day

Today was Celebration Day for the Year Two's.  We were invited up to spend some time with the children and to watch a little show.  There are 4 Year 2 classes at Hannah's school so each class did a different celebration.  Hannah's class had been looking at Birthdays so she got to wear "party" clothes to school - she was really excited about that.  She also had to take traditional birthday food from her country.  We decided that we would make piklets - pavlova was just too tricky and the way the weather has been just wouldn't work successfully.

Waiting for the school bus

Paul thought we would be one of the first to arrive at school but we weren't.  There were alot of eager parents waiting for their children to appear.  We arrived as Hannah's class was coming down to the Hall so had to wait for them to pass us - she knew we had arrived!!!  We watched the classes get into position.  Hannah is sitting at the back.

The first bit was an introduction to the parents in all the different languages that are at the school.  In Hannah's class (including English) 8 languages are spoken!  Then there was a song.

When the song had finished all the children went back to their classrooms apart from Hannah's class - we used the Hall.  Hannah was involved in the dance group and had to perform a little dance.  She'd been practicing it at home so I could sing along with it too.

We spent some time with Hannah talking about birthdays and how different (the same) they are, regardless of where you come from.  Before we went up to the classroom to partake in their party they had a small disco which we got to join in with.  Hannah thought it was great fun to dance with her dad.....on his feet!!!

They had spent alot of time decorating party hats and doing a party mat.  This is Hannah's work.  For some reason it's gone on it's side.

It was wonderful to spend time up at school and especially to go into the classroom as got to see the work that they had done.
