Crazy times....

Goodness the last few weeks have flown by. Paul is once again speaking with his new voice. He had to have an operation to remove a rather large lump from his vocal cords. He went to the doctors' to get water from his ear and came out with an appointment for the following Friday, for an operation to get this lump removed. The doc thought his voice wasn't quite right and discovered this lump. I think Paul came out down dazed as certainly wasn't expecting that. He wasn't able to talk for 48 hours after so there was lots of one-side conversation going on and lots of note writing. We discovered that charades really isn't our thing....so was pleased when the code of silence was able to be broken....!! He's now having to go to speech therapy to learn how to speak properly to prevent another lump from forming. He's recovered now and all is good.

This swine flu is huge news in HK. The government said that once somebody contracted it within HK (and not travelled) all primary, kindy, preschool, playgroups etc would be closed for 2 weeks. This happened last Thursday so Hannah has no preschool and Victoria no playgroup. Timing couldn't be worse as Hannah had only 2 more weeks of school to go - so preschool has come to an abrupt end. We went in yesterday to collect her art work and for her and her friends to have a little get together. Not everyone turned up as they were either getting ready to depart for the summer or had already left (Cirrus is missed !!). The school could only do it by only having one class at a time there. It's a strange concept as it's the end of the school year here - makes sense it's summer I suppose but it's not December !! When school starts 31st August it'll be Term 1 and Hannah will be in a new class. Fingers crossed that summer school will resume in 2 weeks and not be extended.

What's made this swine flu even more frustrating is that not only the schools have been shut but so have all the children's activities eg indoor playrooms, the toy library at the central library, water parks etc. There are still things to do but the choices are limited now. Fingers crossed that it's only for 2 weeks and it'll pass otherwise it's going to be a looooong, hot summer.
